Abstract: I will talk about recent joint work with Van Vu on the limiting spectral distributions of new models of random matrices, introduced and studied by El Karoui and Cheng--Singer. Our main results strengthen previous work of these authors and confirm a question of Cheng--Singer about the universality of the limiting distributions of their models.
