DRAWING SOLIDS

Problems

  1. Using Maple draw an ice cream cone with ice cream. Use appropriate colors and provide a title for the plot (inside Maple).
  2. Using Maple draw a bucket with a handle - the bucket is half full of water. Use appropriate colors and provide a title for the plot.
  3. Using Maple draw an empty cardboard carton with the (four) top flaps open at a 45 degree angle. Use appropriate colors and provide a title for the plot. Make sure that your flaps are of the correct size.

Method of Attack

Every object mentioned above may be drawn by piecing together a few surfaces. To draw these objects, first sketch them by hand, on a sheet with the x,y,z axes drawn. Then write the equations of the surfaces making up this object - this is the hardest part of the project. You will need to write the parametric equations of these surfaces - using Spherical or cylindrical coordinates may be helpful. Then use Maple's spacecurve, plot3d and display commands to plot these surfaces. Use Maple's help facility to find out more about the options for the plot3d command.
