Progress as of October 1999
Immense gloom this summer.
In July with great fanfare I started the engine... Only to hear a
dreadful pinging and rattling from somewhere inside. No more time
to work for the rest of the summer, but in the fall I finally removed the
head to find some swarf from drilling out a head stud in number 4 cylinder.
Duh!
The head was also unhealthy, so
I had a valve job done and unleaded exhaust valve seats installed. On rebuilding
the carb. malfunctioned due to the usual warping problem and a gummed up
accelerator pump. Also he system isn't charging the battery and the
headlights no longer work.
Here is some of what's been done
since January 1999:
| Bodywork |
Tub was cleaned and painted underneath. It's now back on the truck
looking as grungy as ever. The seat-box, trans tunnel and floor is
installed on the drivers side. Doors etc all need to go back on. |
| Brakes |
Done (I hope). |
| Chassis |
Mostly in reasonable shape. |
| Clutch |
Done - but not tested. |
| Engine |
Valve job and hardened valve seats done by Millers of West Chester
(nice job). Carb joints sanded, extranious hole blocked and accelerator
pump cleaned. Will it now tune and not run rich? Such suspense!
Dynamo not charging. Not clear if the temperature sender works. Cold
start not working. Charging light not working. |
| Axles |
Done (breather line needs to be routed correctly) |
| Electrics |
Heater is trash and the windscreen wiper motor won't self park.
Need some parts... Charging and headlights aren't functioning. |
| Steering |
Gave up trying to straighten the wheel. I couldn't get it to
budge. |
|
|
|
The rebuilt head - a lovely job!
|
Yet again the head is off - #4 piston
is out also
|
|
|
|
Cleaner but no closer to running
|
The Green book has been getting a
workout.
