It turned out that the exhaust manifold was toast, and the dynamo sick.
In removing the exhaust manifold, a stud sheared so the head had to come
off.
So I removed everything on the left side of the engine and painted it.
Now I have to replace the steering box oil seal and then the manifold
can go back on. The picture shows the rebuilt water pump in place.
