Homework:
Homework will be assigned for each section we cover in
class. It is your responsibility to go
to www.coursecompass.com and
complete all assigned problems. This is the minimum; you are encouraged to
try other problems for further practice. You are also expected to read all
sections that we cover in class. You may use a calculator on homework (especially
to check your answers), but be sure that you can do all problems without a
calculator (remember, you will not have a calculator for exams). In addition, some online problems may be presented
in a multiple choice format; be aware that you may encounter similar problems
on exams in
short-answer format; it is your responsibility to make sure you
can complete these problems regardless of presentation.

Homework
assigned in a given class must be completed (with the possible exception of a
few problems about which you have questions) before the next class. However, no penalty will be assessed for assignments
completed by the Wednesday following the due date. Since you will be submitting
homework online and can submit problems as you complete them, late homework
will NOT be accepted (if you have a sustained, documented emergency that you
discuss with me before the due date, I may choose to grant alternate
arrangements; however, this is at my sole discretion).
You are encouraged to discuss concepts and problems
from the textbook with others. Note that coursecompass.com will create a
slightly different problem for each student. You may NOT discuss your exact
problem with anyone (besides your instructor). However, you may discuss the
corresponding problem from the book (which should be quite similar!). BE
WARNED: most exam problems will require similar reasoning to problems in the
homework. If you rely too heavily on someone else while completing the
homework, your lack of understanding will be evident on the exams. Ultimately, to succeed on exams, you should
be able to do all homework problems without help from any source (ie. without your textbook, calculator, friend, etc.).
