Using Maple outside of class
To run Maple you have a few options:
-
Buy the student edition of version 9.5 for your own PC. I can give
you a discount code so that the cost is $75. This will meet all of your
needs.
- Use a PC or Mac in a public campus lab. Virtually all have Maple
installed. Visit this page to find locations. Make
sure you save your work on floppy disk, or transfer your files using ftp
to your central account.
- If you are comfortable with UNIX, you can use your "composer" account on brahms.
There are two ways to do this:
- Log in from a public X-terminal.
- Get Exceed software ($25) from campus IT for
your own Windows PC. This lets you set up an X connection to
brahms. For more on Exceed,
check here.
Whenever you use brahms, log on and then enter newgrp nnnn at the UNIX prompt in a
shell window, where nnnn is a four-digit number provided by your instructor.
(This step makes sure that your activities for the course are
not charged against your general email account.) Then enter xmaple & at the prompt to run
Maple. For more UNIX account help,
