Dr. Thomas Angell

Born in 1942, Tom Angell received an A.B. in Chemistry from Harvard College in 1963, an M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1964, and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1969. In additional to the usual duties at Michigan, he was the recipient of a two year grant to study bioengineering from the National Institutes of Health.

In 1969 he joined the faculty at the University of Delaware in the Department of Mathematics which later became the Department of Mathematical Sciences. He has served the department in several capacities including as chair of both the Undergraduate Studies Committee and the Graduate Studies Committee.

He was a visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan in the summer of 1972, a visiting Associate Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1976-1977. Since then, he has taught at the Institut für Numerische und Angewandte Matematik, Universität Göttingen during the 1980-1981 academic year, and was a Visiting Professor at the University of New Mexico during 1984-1985.

Dr. Angell is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, the Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and the International Scientific Radio Union (URSI), and Sigma Xi. He has served formerly as an editor of the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, as a reviewer for Mathematical Reviews, and currently as an associate editor of the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications.

He has also served as Vice President of the College of Arts and Science Senate, and as Vice President and as Secretary of the University Faculty Senate at the University of Delaware.
