Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics Education
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware is seeking a faculty member in Secondary Mathematics Education. The position is tenure-track at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, starting in Fall 2012.
Position description
The successful candidate will be expected to focus on research on mathematics teaching and learning; contribute to the secondary mathematics teacher preparation program; develop and teach courses in mathematics education as well as teach general courses in mathematics; help build and maintain a Ph. D. program in mathematics education; contribute to scholarship by conducting research and other scholarly activities, seeking external funding, publishing in refereed journals, and presenting at professional meetings; mentor undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics education; and collaborate with colleagues in mathematics education in the Department and the School of Education.
Qualifications required
Doctorate in mathematics education or related field by August 15, 2012; strong background in mathematics; evidence of excellence in teaching (grades 7-12 and/or the college level); strong potential of scholarly work in mathematics education; a focused program of future research and scholarship in mathematics education. For appointment at the Associate level a strong record of publication and an established scholarly program are expected.
Desired: Scholarly interest in teacher education and students’ mathematical thinking; masters degree in mathematics or equivalent; experience working with mathematics teachers and/or students in schools grades 7-12.
