A multi-level FEM for Transmission Eigenvalues of Anisotropic Media

Abstract: In this talk, we present a continuous finite element method to compute transmission eigenvalues of anisotropic media for the Helmholtz equation and the Maxwell's equations. These results are for the generalized eigenvalue problem Ax = \lambda Bx which A and B non-symmetric. A substitution technique is employed to the finite element formulation to make A and B symmetric. In addition, a multi-level method is proposed to compute the lowest transmission eigenvalues using the Arnoldi iteration. Numerical examples are provided to show the viability of the method.
