Mathematical Problems arising in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
David Isaacson

Abstract:

We will describe 3 problems that arise in diagnosing and treating breast cancer.
  1. We will describe problems in using electrical impedance tomography to diagnose breast cancer.
  2. We will describe the problem of determining the growth rates of cancer from the number of Her2 receptors on the surface of Her2 positive cells.
  3. We will describe the problem of why the order of administering 4 standard chemotherapeutic drugs can make a large difference in the outcome in treating breast cancer in the adjuvant setting.
