We propose a simple model for the propagation of a fire through brush and show that it supports traveling waves of permanent form. The speed and stability of these waves is determined and then we then investigate the minimum width of a fire break required to extinguish them. The impact of wind on these results is discussed. Finally we give some future directions for this work.
