Ferro-alloys are produced in reduction furnaces, where a large amount of heat is released in the electrodes due to the Joule effect. Eddy currents model coupled to the heat equation with phase change in the transient regime are an appropriate model for this problem. An existence result is shown under quite general conditions for enthalpy.
