In order to apply for a Minor in Mathematics, you must take note of all the requirements for the Minor as stated in the Undergraduate Catalog, and fill out an electronic application form via SIS. There is no need to contact the Department of Mathematical Sciences before filling out the application form. That form will be routed automatically for the proper official permission to add the Minor.
Requirements for a Minor in Mathematics
A student seeking a minor in mathematics must obtain permission from the chairperson or his designee in the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
Course requirements consist of a total of 18 credits in MATH courses offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, to include 9 credits above MATH 302. In order to count toward the minor, a grade of C- or better is required. Students are expected to have a background either in MATH243 or MATH245 in order to enroll in the upper division courses.
MATH 305, MATH 341 and MATH 351 are not considered above MATH 302 since they are comparable courses from a different track. However, MATH 342 and MATH 352 may be counted as above MATH 302, provided MATH 349 is not included in the count.
Courses which are cross-listed with a Mathematical Sciences MATH course may also be counted toward the minor. Mathematics education courses MATH308, MATH379, MATH380 and MATH382 may not be counted towards the minor.
