This test is only administered three times each academic year. It is scheduled the first weekend after classes begin in September, prior to Spring pre-registration in November and prior to Fall pre-registration in April.
The next time this test will be administered is Saturday, April 20th, from 9 to 11 am . All students must sign up by Wednesday, April 17th, at noon in 501 EWG. The location will be announced when you sign up.
You must bring a number two pencil, a calculator and your student ID to the exam.
NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES WILL BE ALLOWED with the exception of a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator or a scientific calculator. No phone calculators can be used. No devices with internet access. No calculators with a alphabet keyboard. No electronic English translators can be used. All phones must be turned off and stowed in a separate backpack or purse and cannot be accessed during the exam.
This exam is designed to allow students with a good mathematical background satisfy the College of Arts and Science BA math skills requirement without taking a mathematics course. (Other colleges may or may not allow this math waiver; you should check with your advisor or dean.) If you are interested, please check with your advisor that this test will apply to your program.
The test covers roughly the same content as Math 114. For this reason it is popularly known as the "M114 Waiver Exam". The test consists of thirty multiple-choice questions covering algebra, functions and elementary statistics. Twenty or more questions correctly answered are considered passing. Students are given two hours to complete the exam. The results will be sent to you via e-mail. You are only allowed ONE attempt on this exam. Dr. Bettyann Daley of the Department of Mathematical Sciences oversees the administration and grading of this test. It is administered three times during the academic year. Past history suggests that some preparation is necessary to achieve a passing score. Reviewing a Precalculus or College Algebra text and a Statistics text would be helpful.
