Some combinatorial aspects of symmetric group actions on posets

We will give a brief overview of a sample of questions concerning actions of finite groups on partially ordered sets (posets), followed by a discussion of the problem of certain representations of the symmetric group arising from posets with special symmetry properties. We will attempt to make the presentation largely self-contained.
