Research Courses (credit and non-credit)

Research courses:  During the fall and spring, students can receive course credit for research in one of two ways:  (1) they can register for an independent study in their major, or (2) I can register them for UNIV 368 or 468, “Undergraduate Research.”  For option #2, students contact me, I ask their faculty sponsor to confirm the research project, and then I register the student for any where from 0-6 credits for UNIV 368 or 468.  (The numerical difference refers to the amount of work they intend to put in on the project.)

During the winter and summer sessions, students can register for UNIV 369, “Undergrad Research Sustaining,” a zero-credit course that goes on their transcript as evidence of their doing research.  Since students often receive funding in the winter and summer, this zero-credit course skirts the issue of students receiving course credit and funding, and also ensures that their funding won’t have to be used to pay for credit-bearing courses (zero credits = no tuition).
