The Department of Mathematical Sciences wants to ensure all students enrolling in Math 241 – Geometry and Calculus A, have the prerequisite precalculus and trigonometry skills needed to succeed. If your math placement exam score is Level IV or V, this indicates some gaps in your background. The Calculus Preparatory Program (CPP) provides an opportunity for you to review these skills so you can enroll in Math 241. The CPP is an online assessment and learning program of Precalculus and Trigonometry skills. It is coordinated by the Department of Mathematical Sciences and the ALEKS® Corporation. The cost is $30 for six-week access.
Only those students with Math Placement Levels IV or V can use this program to fulfill the enrollment requirements for Math 241.
Suggested Program Deadlines - MAY 30th for Summer courses, AUGUST 22nd for Fall courses: Access to this program is for six weeks from your date of program registration. It is suggested that you begin the program no later than May 1st for summer course enrollment and by July 19th for fall course enrollment. Do not enroll in this program until you can devote the time to review your math skills and have routine access to the web.
Please keep in mind that Math 241 will fill fairly quickly during the registration process beginning in mid-June for new students. It is to your advantage to complete the program as soon as possible so you and your advisor can enroll you in Math 241. Completing this program does not guarantee a seat in Math 241 and you will not be able to register for Math 241 until you complete the program!
Past experience indicates students need about three weeks to complete the program. However, your time to completion is determined by your knowledge of these skills and it may take a longer or shorter amount of time. This program will require that you take a number of routine assessments. Be aware that you may be tested multiple times on the same or similar topics.
COMPLETION OF PROGRAM
To successfully complete this program, you must successfully complete 100% of all the topics. Your progress is monitored routinely and when you successfully complete the program, you will be contacted by email from the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Once confirmed, you will need to contact your college advising office to make changes to your schedule. This is your responsibility and is not done automatically.
