The Department is delighted to announce that Ms. Linda B. Selwood and Mr. Earl W. Quillen have been selected to receive the Webber Award for their distinguished service to mathematics education in the State of Delaware.
Dr. Johnny Lott, President of NCTM, will speak at the G. Cuthbert Webber Award Celebration at the University of Delaware on Thursday, May 6th, at 4 p.m. in 114 Purnell Hall. Refreshments will be available there at 3:30 p.m. and also after the presentation. All are invited!
The award is given "in memory of G. Cuthbert Webber, Ph.D., Chicago 1934, pedagogue and Professor of Mathematics, University of Delaware (1937 - 1981), an award consisting of a plaque and a financial gift is presented to a member of the University community or a mathematics educator in the State of Delaware for work in advancing mathematics education."
The title of Dr. Lott's remarks will be: "High Quality Teaching of Mathematics: Yesterday, Today Tomorrow."
He will explore such questions as: Would yesterday's high quality mathematics teaching only be marginally acceptable today? Will today's high quality mathematics teaching be only marginally acceptable tomorrow? What is the high quality teaching of tomorrow to look like? The answers to these questions may not be automatically what you think. How can research help?
The Delaware mathematics education community and anyone else interested in attending are cordially invited to do so.
