2006 Webber Award Ceremony

Martha Lowther and Dr. Ronald Wenger will receive the 1996 Webber Award and Dr. Clifford Sloyer will be honored at a ceremony to be held Thursday, May 4th in the Trabant Theater (lower level of the Trabant University Center). This year’s recipients are Martha Lowther of Tatnall and Ron Wenger of the UD Mathematical Sciences Department. In addition, Dr. Cliff Sloyer will also be honored for his service to the Math Department and to mathematics education at both the state and national level. The award is given "in memory of G. Cuthbert Webber, Ph.D., Chicago 1934, pedagogue and Professor of Mathematics, University of Delaware (1937 - 1981), an award consisting of a plaque and a financial gift is presented to a member of the University community or a mathematics educator in the State of Delaware for work in advancing mathematics education." Dr. Al Cuoco, Director of the Center for Mathematics Education, Education Development Center will be the keynote speaker. The title of his talk is The Mathematics of Task Design and it will examine the “specialized knowledge of the discipline” which may not be completely addressed in traditional mathematics courses. There will be a reception at 3:30 and the Award Ceremony will start at 4:00. All are welcome to attend.
