Prof. John Pelesko has earned the College of Arts and Sciences 2006 Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award. The College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Award is based on student and peer evaluations, alumni testimonials, number and range of courses offered, involvement in individual instruction, quality of advisement and mentoring, demonstrated commitment to student welfare and development, and acknowledged reputation in teaching. This award recognizes Prof. Pelesko's long-time dedication to applying modern and effective teaching techniques in his classes, and his community outreach to high school teachers and students. Prof. Pelesko is the director of the Modeling, Experiment and Computation (MEC) Lab where students and teachers can enjoy a hand-on experience exploring mathematics (see our 2005 Newsletter feature), and he has mentored over 14 undergraduates in individual research projects. Prof. Pelesko has served on the Center for Teaching Effectiveness Advisory Board and has been heavily involved in UD's ITUE workshops. He has been a regular volunteer for the University's GEAR-UP program and has coordinated in-service activities for high school math and science teachers. Prof. Pelesko's teaching activities have improved our undergraduate and graduate programs, and have had a profound impact on his students and colleagues.
