New grant awarded by AFOSR
|
Professors Fioralba Cakoni, David Colton and Peter Monk have been awarded a three year grant for $688,275 from the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. This project is concerned with problems in electromagnetic imaging where weak scattering models and nonlinear optimization techniques are inappropriate. Such situations typically arise when fast, computationally effective and reliable reconstructions of the scatterer or target signature are needed but detailed a priori information on the physical properties of the scattering object is not available. In this case Cakoni,Colton and Monk have developed the field of qualitative methods in inverse scattering theory to treat such problems. The specific problems to be considered are the non-destructive testing of dielectrics, the detection of caves and tunnels in the earth and imaging problems associated with anisotropic materials. |
