Congratulations to our undergraduate modeling team members, Hadi Fattah, Geoff Oxberry and Andy Seagraves for their Meritorious performance at this year's 2006 Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The results can be viewed here. UD is listed on page 9. A copy of this year's entry has been included in our Tech Report series (2006_03). This year, 969 teams from around the world competed in either MCM or ICM (the Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling). If you look at the results, problems A and B are for MCM and problem C is for ICM. Of these, 14 received the highest distinction which is Outstanding. After these, 171 teams received Meritorious distinction. The next distinction is Honorable Mention, and after that is Successful Participant. This is the third year in a row that a UD modeling team has earned a Meritorious distinction.

The contest is held in early February. During the contest, Modeling teams study an open question for four days. The results of their work typically involving modeling, analysis and computation is submitted in a single report and judged by panel of academics and practitioners.
