Drs. Cakoni and Gilbert receive Humboldt awards

Dr. Fioralba Cakoni has been awarded a Humboldt return residential research sponsorship to visit the University of Göettingen where she will work with Professor Reiner Kress on electromagnetic detection of buried objects in heterogeneous media. Applications occur in medical imaging, mine detection and non-destructive testing. Dr. Cakoni previously held a Humboldt postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Stuttgart, 1998-2000. For the third time Dr. Robert P. Gilbert, Unidel Foundation Professor, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Award celebrating his lifelong achievements in applied analysis. Among other things, the award will sponsor a visit to the University of Ruhr at Bochum, where he will work with Professor Klaus Hackl on acoustic scattering from cancellous bone tissue.
