Six New Math and Applied Math Ph.D.s in 2004
|
In 2004 the Department of Mathematical Sciences will graduate six Ph.D.s in mathematics and applied mathematics, more than in any other year in our history. The graduates are David Chandler, graduating in mathematics under the supervision of Prof. Qing Xiang. His thesis title: The Smith Normal Forms of Designs with Classical Parameters. Dr. Chandler has accepted a postdoctoral position at Academica Sinica in Taiwan. Vasyl Dmytrenko, graduating in mathematics under the supervision of Prof. Felix Lazebnik. His thesis title: Classes of Polynomial Graphs. Dr. Dmytrenko's future plans are undetermined. Frank Fiedler, graduating in mathematics under the supervision of Prof. Qing Xiang. His thesis title: Maximal Arcs in PG(2,2^m). Dr. Fiedler has accepted a postdoctoral position at Simon Fraser University in Canada. Wagner Muniz, graduating in applied mathematics under the supervision of Prof. David Colton. His thesis title: A Modified Linear Sampling Method Valid for All Frequencies. Dr. Muniz has accepted a postdoctoral position at Universitat Karlsruhe in Germany. Jason Williford, graduating in mathematics under the supervision of Prof. Felix Lazebnik. His thesis title: Constructions in Finite Geometry with Applications to Graphs. Dr. Williford has accepted a visiting professor position at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Fabricio Tourrucoo graduating in applied mathematics under the supervision of Prof. Gilberto Schleiniger. His thesis title is Perturbation Methods in Mathematical Finance: Zero-Coupon Bonds and Bond Options. Dr. Tourrucoo has accepted a teaching position at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. |
