UD Matheletes earn Honorable Mention in Modeling Contest

One of UD's 2013 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) teams earned an Honorable Mention in this year's competition. The contest is held in early February and is the international standard for undergraduate modeling contests with over 5,600 teams competing this year. During the contest, modeling teams study an open question for four days. The teams may choose from one of two problems. The first problem involved optimal design for baking brownies. The second problem involved effective use of water resources on a national scale. The results of their work typically involving modeling, analysis and computation is submitted in a single report and judged by panel of academics and practitioners. This year, UD fielded two teams.

Team 1: Jiefu Li, Jianbo Sun, Xiao Li
Team A: Yi Zheng, Yucong Weng, Jingdan Zhao

The problems and press release are posted here, http://www.comap.com/undergraduate/contests/mcm/contests/2013/results/

Team A earned an Honorable Mention, placing them roughly in the second quartile of the 5,636 teams that entered the contest from around the world this year.
