AFOSR grant to Del. State/Delaware team

A research team of faculty from Delaware State University and the University of Delaware, and headed by Professor Fengshan Liu (Delaware State University), has been awarded a grant for $200,000 over two years by the United States Air Force to study the detection of improvised explosive devices using electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic waves seem to hold the greatest promise for this detection problem since electromagnetic energy can be launched in a penetrating manner from small devices and electromagnetic energy is unlikely to pose a detonation risk. The group at the University of Delaware who are involved in this project are Fioralba Cakoni, David Colton, Russell Luke and Peter Monk. The UD team will focus on signal processing methods such as the MUSIC algorithm and the Luke-Devaney approach as well as various imaging methodologies with emphasis on the linear sampling method and the gap reciprocity method as developed by Cakoni, Colton and Monk.
