Department of Mathematical Sciences

Welcome to the web site of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Delaware. Here, you will be able to find information about our undergraduate and graduate programs, about our faculty and staff, and links to a wide variety of information about the many activities taking place or sponsored by our department.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences houses 32 primary faculty engaged in teaching and research activities. The department is home to many vibrant research programs in applied mathematics, pure mathematics, and mathematics education. We continuously review and update our undergraduate programs and graduate programs to ensure that our curriculum meets the needs of today’s students and reflects the cutting-edge research interests of our faculty. In the Research section you may read more about the current research taking place in the department.

Our graduate students may pursue a masters of science or a doctorate in Pure Mathematics or in Applied Mathematics. A new five year BS/MS degree option is also available. Outstanding opportunities for graduate students to participate in research projects are available in all areas of faculty research. The Graduate page contains further information about these programs.

Currently, our department houses approximately 300 declared majors in our various undergraduate degree programs. Undergraduate may pursue degrees in Mathematics, Secondary Mathematics Education, Mathematics and economics, or in our newest program, Quantitative Biology. In the Undergraduate section of this site you may read more about our six different degree programs.

I hope the information on these pages is useful to you and I welcome suggestions for improvements of this site. If you would like to speak with someone about the programs offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, you may call us at (302)-831-2653, or stop by our main office in Ewing Hall, Room 501.
