  • Download a free Acrobat reader so that you can read PDF files.

  • Ghostscript is a neat tool for converting postscript files into jillions of other formats.  Postscript is a graphics language which under optimal circumstances allows one to represent lines, arcs and other objects rather than bitmapped approximations of them.  When driven by other software, ghostscript allows you to view postscript files on your screen and print them on your printer.
  • If you are a Windows users and you are sick of using notepad, try emacs. It's very powerful and includes built-in syntax highlighting for LaTeX files. Windoze users can download a precompiled binary here.
  • A quick LaTeX demo (pdf version if you have not gotten latex working yet) and another demo on figures and references.
  • JabRef is a very nice free tool for managing your bibliographic database. It's a java app and should run on any platform with a Java virtual machine.
